Goodreads Blurb: Catalia “Cat” Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker. This smart-mouthed soothsayer has no interest in her powers and would much rather fly under the radar, far from the clutches of her homicidal mother. But when an ambitious warlord captures her, she may not have a choice…
Griffin is intent on bringing peace to his newly conquered realm in the magic-deprived south. When he discovers Cat is the Kingmaker, he abducts her. But Cat will do everything in her power to avoid her dangerous destiny and battle her captor at every turn. Although up for the battle, Griffin would prefer for Cat to help his people willingly, and he’s ready to do whatever it takes to coax her…even if that means falling in love with her.
My Musings: You ever read a book on your kindle, and love it so much that you turn off the page counter because you never want it to end. And in your mind, if you can’t see the pages slowly creeping towards that 100%, than the book will just keep going on forever and ever and never end? Just me? Oh..well unfortunately despite my extreme denial this book did have to end, and now I am left with super withdrawal.
Now and then I pick books that are out of my comfort zone, and this book was one such case. I don’t often read adult romance paranormal/fantasy because I find them to often be thinly disguised porno’s with little to no plot. Not the case with this book. Are their steamy sex scenes? Yes. Buuut it definitely doesn’t take up the whole book. There is a true, intricate plot here filled with intrigue and magic.
I also can’t remember the last time that I have loved a main character so much. It’s so rare to see a sassy character that is actually sassy and not just a huge bitch parading as “sassy”. I found Cat to be very well rounded, she was vulnerable but she wasn’t a doormat, she was intelligent but still believable and she was kind while not taking peoples crap.
Now as for the love interest….I think when you turn a kidnapper into a love interest there is going to be some believably issues. I did enjoy the sexual tension between the two leads but I’ll be honest, at times it felt a little like Stockholm syndrome. Admittedly this didn’t deter me from loving the book, but it did give me pause from time to time. This book kind of reminded me of an adult version of [book:The Kiss of Deception|16429619]. If you enjoyed that book and aren’t squeamish over sex scenes that I feel confident you will enjoy this.
Overall despite the at times questionable foundation of the couple’s love story, I had a ton of fun in this epic world of magic and romance. This author has redeemed this genre for me. 4/5
