Goodreads Blurb: Held captive in the barbarian kingdom of Venda, Lia and Rafe have little chance of escape. Desperate to save Lia’s life, her erstwhile assassin, Kaden, has told the Vendan Komizar that she has the gift, and the Komizar’s interest in Lia is greater than anyone could have foreseen.
Meanwhile, nothing is straightforward: There’s Rafe, who lied to Lia but has sacrificed his freedom to protect her; Kaden, who meant to assassinate her but has now saved her life; and the Vendans, whom Lia always believed to be savages. Now that she lives among them, however, she realizes that may be far from the truth. Wrestling with her upbringing, her gift, and her sense of self, Lia must make powerful choices that will affect her country… and her own destiny.
My Musings: Okay guys, confession time…I like love triangles. And because I like love triangles,I preferred the first book a bit more. In this book the love triangle isn’t really a thing anymore and I felt like the simmering tension(forgive me for saying simmering), just wasn’t there. Sure Kaden and Rafe still hate each other but I felt that there just wasn’t enough interaction between all three of them to really keep my interest like the last one.
However if you felt like the Kiss of Deception was too slow or if you are not a huge fan of love triangles then I think that you will enjoy this book more. There was a more complicated plot and the change of scenery was nice.
Overall despite preferring the first book, I still really enjoyed this current installment and can’t wait to find out what happens next. 3.5/5
